FUNNIES OF THE MONTH

VILLAGE MANAGEMENT UPDATE

We are delighted to advise that our monthly council pool Inspection report has delivered perfect test results for the entire 12 month period. Village Management along with all residents would like to sincerely thank Les Connolly who has almost completely independently undertaken this role on behalf of the Village. His diligence and attention to the pool operations cannot be understated.

The village remains in liaison with City of Armadale and the WA Health Department as we work towards receiving an exemption to our pool facility grading which will allow professional water aerobics courses to be undertaken due to popular demand. Progress has been made and a dedicated instructor who will form part of this exemption status has been engaged. We look forward to promoting this class in the very near future to all residents.

Residents will have noticed the solar bollard lights have recently been installed around the lodge alfresco area just in time to assist residents navigate their way home after enjoying the clubhouse facilities with neighbours on those balmy summer nights that are just around the corner.

With the village development progressing rapidly we have also ensured new entrance signage identifying new roads within the development are required and these will be installed during the month to assist family and visitors alike navigate our ever-growing site.

Through constructive consultation with SCI we are very pleased to advise that the Fetch TV Channel is available within residents villa’s and should residents wish to utilise this station they simply need to contact Rob.

Librarian has been sourced. A very special thanks to Susan who is currently residing in Lot 10 with her husband Ross whilst they await the completion of their forever home at Lot 79 for taking up our call out of a dedicated Librarian for the Village. Susan on behalf of the Resident Committee, Management Team and all residents we thank you for offering your services to us all in ensuring our library remains neat, tidy and relevant for the benefit of all residents.

As per resident requests, the mens change room in the lodge has now been fitted with a bench seat plus the gym now has a ballet bar for rehab balance exercises.

Village Management is also pleased to announce we will be hosting an informal quarterly management update session for all residents to attend on November 7th at 1pm in the Lodge and we encourage topics of interest be advised to Leah 1 week prior to the meeting to ensure we are well positioned to answer your query or questions at the meeting. We look forward to seeing you there to hear how your village is progressing.

WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY – STAFF

As like our Village our team is ever-growing, and we are very pleased to welcome Kelly Twight who has recently commenced with us doing fortnightly Fridays from 9:30am-1:30pm in the role of supporting residents. She will be available to residents for advice on the ACAT Home Care assessment processes and she will be looking into the current and future needs of our residents home care support needs.

Kelly commenced nursing back in 2004 and her most recent experience is in the role of Community Health Nurse with Silver Chain where she has been for 2 years. Prior organisations Kelly has been employed by in the role of Registered Nurse/ Midwife include the Armadale Health Service, SJOG Murdoch, Sonic Health Plus and The Ridge Medical Centre Baldivis.

Our goal as a Village is to one day have an onsite home care support team available for residents needs as they age in place. We encourage residents to please pop in and say hi to Kelly as we look forward to having her valuable expertise and advice.

WELCOME TO THE CHAMPION COMMUNITY

Helen Rubin – Lot 13

Welcome to Helen who has moved into Lot 13 at 4 Nature Vista and is accompanied by her dog Jed, a 13-year old Basenji/Terrier cross. In late September she made the move from another lifestyle village in Brisbane to Champion Lakes.

Helen was born in the US and attended University there until work aspirations resulted in her residing in Canada and Europe. In her younger years, employment included hotel cleaning, cooking, picking fruit on a kibbutz, and as a resort manager. She has also worked and studied in many other countries, including France, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand & Scotland.

Helen immigrated to Brisbane in 1981, but she has mainly lived in Cairns and Townsville, where she worked as a health educator, primary and high school teacher and guidance officer. For two years she was an advocate for children and young people in foster care. More recent employment has been at TAFE, Stuart Prison and as a lecturer and tutor in education, social work and other areas at James Cook and Deakin Universities. Helen has also volunteered with health organisations, at the aquarium of Reef HQ and the RSPCA.

Her many interests include crafts, gardening, meditation, oil painting, travelling, walking/hiking and water sports; so she is never likely to be bored!

In November, her son Paul, who has been living in England for many years, is moving to Perth with his wife and two young children. So she is looking forward to many years of family time.

Bill Stubberfield – Lot 40

Welcome to Bill who has come to Lot 40, 20, Lifestyle Lane. He is accompanied by Cody, his 10 year old faithful little papillon cross companion and I am sure they will be pleased to greet you as he is seen walking around the Village.

Bill was born in WA and lived in Joondanna and the Mount Hawthorn area whilst attending school at Osborne Park Primary then CBC, Leederville and then to St Patrick’s Technical College.  He went into accounting and was employed with the State Government Auditor’s office before running a TAB Agency. He then joined Bell Brothers as an internal auditor and became Office Manager when Boral took over Bell Resources.

Bill was married at the age of 22 and enjoyed 52 years of a happy marriage with himself and wife Susie residing in in various areas including Scarborough, Coolbellup, Canning Vale and Byford where they were involved and were committee members of the Byford Bowling Club with Bill becoming President of the Bowling Club.

They have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren, all the boys live and work locally with 2 boys working with FESA and the other with Kone Cranes in the construction area. He already has contacts in the Village as his son Troy is married to Rosalie’s daughter Karin (Lot 25) so had all the village information easily available before he made his decision to join us.

Bill and Susie owned a caravan from their early 20’s and travelled extensively within and around Australia and he has a detailed map of Australia with their many expeditions highlighted. A very impressive and thorough picture of their incredible knowledge and journeys in this country he shares proudly. When he sold the caravan recently it was the 6th they had owned. Unfortunately, his wife passed away in 2017 and he decided to downsize and recent medical concerns meant his family helped move him in here.

He is now enjoying getting to know people in the Village, and we will no doubt see him at some of our functions when he is settled.

Leanne Tanner – Lot 41

Welcome to Leanne Tanner in Lot 41 at 22 Lifestyle Lane.

Leanne was born in WA and spent most of her childhood in Wanneroo.  After leaving school Leanne joined the Air Force where she met her husband Grahame. After they were married, he was posted to Butterworth, Malaysia and spent a 2 year posting there.

They were then sent to Wagga Wagga in NSW and their children Tim and Melissa were born there.

They later moved to Richmond, NSW where the children attended primary school. Upon retirement they moved to Perth and lived in Armadale then moved to Kinross then to the canals at Yunderup. They also lived in Port Hedland for 4 years where their son, Tim lives and grandchildren were born. Leanne visits them regularly.

Leanne was in communications as a cryptographer in the Air Force and later worked in various jobs in administration. Grahame always worked in the aircraft maintenance area.  After retiring they sold their house and bought a caravan and toured round Australia before Covid and then were centred within WA until Grahame passed away in 2021. Leanne’s daughter lives in Southern River so now Leanne is conveniently located and can look after her young grandchildren on a regular basis.

Leanne enjoys doing puzzles and crosswords as well as knitting and crochet and is a follower of AFL and Rugby League. She is enjoying being in her new home as well as socialising and has felt that she has experienced a lovely welcome since being in the Village.
