Funnies of the Month

Welcome to the Champion Community

This month we welcome new residents Ron & Elaine @ Lot 60 along with Ailene @ Lot 23 to their forever homes at our Village. Thanks again to Sheila for undertaking the meet and greet to allow us all at the Village to be introduced to these fabulous new residents.

Ron & Elaine – Lot 60

We are delighted that Ron & Elaine have now settled permanently into their new home at Lot 60 after spending a few weeks at Lot 10 while their forever home was finished. They are accompanied by Buddy, a gorgeous little papillon dog who is one and a half years old and is a real charmer with a cute personality and cheeky look. He is bound to be a hit with the little ladies, probably both dog and human kind!!!

Originally Ron and Elaine lived in New South Wales but moved to Perth about 5 years ago. They lived at Alkimos for a year before moving to a new home in Baldivis where they stayed for about 4 years before coming into the village.

They have 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren in the area and enjoying spending time with those that reside in the local area. They have additional children and extended family on the East Coast.

They find their house in the village both comfortable and cosy and have done an incredible job of moving in and getting themselves sorted out most efficiently. They are enjoying meeting new people and are trying out various activities in the village and experiencing new interests.

Ailene – Lot 23

We would like to welcome the lovely Ailene and her gorgeous little Maltese cross mix named Shilow at Lot 23 into our village.

Ailene had a difficult time just prior to coming into the village with over 13 weeks of treatment and hospitalisation ending ultimately in amputation of her right leg above the knee.

She is coping amazingly well in her wheelchair with the assistance of regular visits from Silver Chain and her daughter and managing to be as independent as possible with the many challenges she faces. She is enjoying organising herself in her new home. In preparation for the festive season she has an incredible Christmas theme in her living and outdoor areas and loves the Christmas season.

Ailene has a daughter and a son whom she sees regularly. Her son Wayne has recently moved into a new house in Byford and her daughter Julie lives in Armadale and has 3 grown up children who also keep contact with Ailene.
In her early years, Ailene originally from Bridgetown moved to Kenwick in Grade 4 and then lived in Kelmscott and surrounding areas for many years to follow. Ailene had lived in Malaysia in her early 20s for 2 years but came back to Brisbane for the birth of her son and then returned to the Perth area to raise her family. When her children were old enough she went to work in Coles and became Manager for many years involved in training and travelling around the State. She was loyal and committed to the company for 30 years, even getting the long service leave infamous watch upon her retirement!

She is a keen follower of Netball particularly when her daughter played in her earlier years and now subsequently with her granddaughters. She is their biggest supporter. She also loves to do intricate colouring in and finds that relaxing.

Once Ailene decided to move from a bigger property in Armadale she visited the village and liked the outlook and style. She finds the people are very friendly and is enjoying interacting with the other residents and looking forward to meeting people at the Christmas dinner.

VILLAGE OPEN DAY – Sunday November 14th

“Right Sizing” – looks and feels very different at Champion Lifestyle. We held an Open Day at the Village on Sunday 14th November, and with over 150 guests seizing the opportunity to see what Champion Lakes has to offer we were very overwhelmed with the fabulous help and assistance the residents gave us in showcasing the Village to the wider community. On behalf of Management thank you to each and every one of you for the support and efforts leading up to and on the day!!

SOCIAL SCOOP – Hearing Australia & Gingin Bus Trip

The Village was recently visited by Hearing Australia to deliver Free Hearing tests to our residents with many taking up the opportunity to partake in the sessions. At times there was a line of eager residents waiting their turn, and as it was a stunning sunny day the shade was very enjoyed. Thank you Hearing Australia.

Gin Gin Bus Trip – a group of residents headed off for a bit of an adventure on the 25th November and attended the Berry farm, Honey farm, Goats cheese farm, with a stop for lunch at the Gingin Hotel before heading to Toodyay to the Christmas shop, Coorinja Winery, Noble Falls (where the photos are taken), Margaret River Chocolate Factory then on to home with Casey’s tours. A great day was had by all and special thanks must go to John who was the lead instigator for the trip as well as Rhonda for providing the photos. We look forward to many photos of trips enjoyed by residents in the New Year.

VILLAGE MANAGEMENT UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who helped out on the Village Open Day. It was a huge success with over 150 visitors enjoying the food, drinks and entertainment by Chris from varying artists such as The Beetles to Bublé.

Thank you Ron and Denise for the Xmas decorations and lights at the lodge, and all residents for decorating their houses creating a wonderful holiday atmosphere for all of us. The celebratory turning on of the lights was certainly quiet a spectacular.

The Village Management & Sales office will be taking a little break over the Christmas period with the office closed from Monday 20th December through to Friday 7th January 2022. For urgent matters during this time, you are encouraged to call 0438 510 789. Sales enquiries will be by private appointment only during this time.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

Following the recent Herb talk held at the Village on Wednesday 1st December, 2021, we will have some new herbs being planted in the Community Garden along with establishment of the worm farm that can provide the plants in the area with what us green thumbs call “Liquid Gold”. The spring plantings are coming along very nicely and we will keep encouraging people to come join in the community garden activities at their leisure over the warmer months.

Hobby Shed

Residents may have noticed that the noticeboard has recently been re-positioned for improved ease of reference for all residents upon entering the Clubhouse. As an additional extra a bench was also installed below the noticeboard and special thanks must go to Fred and Ron for building this for us. The new area looks great and is perfect for the little bits and pieces that need a home for regular resident drop offs. Fred and Ron have also used their talents to build a children’s kitchenet.
